Big load takes four hours from Sherwood to MelroseJune 27, 2008
SHERWOOD -- An oversized equipment load, which has had a long journey so far, moved through the four-county area Thursday and is expected to arrive in the city of Oregon yet this week. A sulfur condenser constructed in Beaumont, Texas, was loaded onto an approximate 120-foot trailer for transportation by Bennett Mobile Express of McDonough, Ga. Leaving Texas on June 1, a representative for the transportation company relayed that the condenser is enroute to Sunoco Oil in Oregon, east of Toledo, but it's been slow going. The Ohio Highway Patrol picked up the escort duties of the transport caravan on U.S. 6 in Edgerton at the Ohio-Indiana state line on Thursday. Arriving in Sherwood around 1 p.m., it took approximately four hours to get to Melrose due to many obstacles. Assisting in the process was John's Towing from Defiance to help jack up the load and pull it over railroad tracks if necessary; Mercury Electric and Sign to clear low-hanging branches and raise utility lines; and Norfolk and South Railroad and Pro Pilot Escort Service, Texas.
