DELTA -- A Defiance woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash near here Wednesday morning.

Karen Essex, 46, 1400 Karnes Ave., was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, at 8:36 a.m., the Essex vehicle was northbound on Fulton County Road 10 and failed to yield at the stop sign at County Road H in York Township. Essex drove into the intersection and her vehicle was struck on the driver's side by an eastbound sports utility vehicle driven by Lorrie Crossfield, 42, Delta.

Both vehicles came to rest in a soybean field, troopers reported.

Crossfield was taken by Delta EMS to the Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon, with non-life-threatening injuries. A condition update was unavailable.

Damage to both vehicles was heavy.

The accident remains under investigation.

To the family of Karen Essex.

I was very sadden to read this story.
I feel for her family in this time of loss.
Karen was a great friend of mine in our high school years. We graduated together in 1980.
May god bless you all.
