BOWLING GREEN -- The 2008 Northwest Ohio Fall Chess Challenge will be held Saturday at Dayspring Assembly Church of God, just north of Bowling Green.

This will be an unrated scholastic tournament open to any student in grade K-8. Beginner players are welcome, though players must understand how chess pieces move. The purpose of the event is to promote scholastic chess at the elementary and junior high levels. The event is sponsored by the Montessori Chess Boosters Club.

Students will be paired based on grade level and strength of play. Everyone plays the entire tournament with no elimination. The five playing sections for this tournament are kindergarten, grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. The tournament format will consist of five 30-minute rounds and a 45-minute round using the standard Swiss style pairing system.

Registration forms are available online at www.chessrocks.org. Registration fee is $10 by mail or $15 the day of the tournament at the door. Call Jim Van Vorhis at 419-354-1562.
